What "Crawled, not indexed" means

Googlebot visited, but Google chose not to index the page. Why it happens and what you can improve.

Crawled, not indexed (API: not_indexed) means a DNS-verified Googlebot visited your page, but the page still wasn't in Google's index at our final check, about 72 hours after the visit.

Why this isn't refunded

Our guarantee covers the crawl: getting Googlebot to your page. That part worked. Whether a crawled page is indexed is entirely Google's decision, based on the page itself and your site as a whole. No service can force it. This is also stated in our Refund Policy.

Common reasons Google holds a page back

  • Thin content: short pages, placeholder text, or pages that add little beyond what's already indexed.
  • Duplicate or near-duplicate content: product variants, printer versions, tag and category pages, or content copied from elsewhere.
  • A canonical pointing to another URL: Google indexes the canonical instead.
  • A hidden noindex: a meta tag or X-Robots-Tag header. See noindex and robots.txt blocks.
  • Weak internal linking: orphan pages with no links from the rest of your site look unimportant.
  • A new or low-trust site: Google can be slow to index new domains, and selective with low-quality backlinks pages.
  • Soft 404s: pages that return 200 but look empty or like an error.

What to do

  1. Run the page through the Indexability checker to rule out technical blocks.
  2. Check the canonical with the Canonical & hreflang checker.
  3. Improve the page: add genuinely useful, original content and a clear title and description (try the Meta tag analyzer).
  4. Link to the page from relevant, already-indexed pages on your site.
  5. Give it time. Google sometimes indexes a page days or weeks after crawling it.
  6. When you've made real changes, resubmit from History. You can bulk-resubmit all Not indexed URLs at once; URLs already back in the pipeline are skipped.

Checking again later

Our checks stop after 72 hours, but Google may index the page afterwards. Use the Index checker in your dashboard to check a list of URLs right now, without using indexing credits.

Resubmitting the same unchanged page over and over rarely helps. Change the page first.
