If a URL shows Refunded in History, we couldn't verify a Googlebot visit in time, and the credit is already back in your balance. Here's how to work out why.
Read the reason first
Open History and look at the message on the row:
- "Couldn't be sent within 24h (indexing capacity was full)": our Google capacity was used up for long enough that your URL never went out. Nothing is wrong with your page. Resubmit it. Business packs are sent first when capacity is tight.
- "No verified Googlebot visit within 24h of sending": Google got the signal but we didn't see a verified visit. Keep reading.
Common causes
- Your server blocks Googlebot. Firewalls, CDN bot protection, security plugins or rate limiters sometimes block or challenge crawlers. Check your firewall logs and allow verified search-engine bots.
- The page returns an error. A 404, 410, 5xx or a slow, timing-out server stops the crawl. Test with the HTTP status & header checker.
- Redirect problems. Long chains or loops can make Googlebot give up. Trace them with the Redirect checker.
- robots.txt disallows the URL. Googlebot won't fetch a blocked page. Test it with the robots.txt tester.
- Login walls or geo-blocking. Googlebot crawls mostly from the US and can't log in.
- Google simply chose not to crawl yet. The Indexing API is a strong signal, but Google decides when it crawls.
Run a full check
The free Indexability checker runs a 22-point audit (status code, robots.txt, noindex, canonical, redirects and more) and grades the page A to F. Fix anything it flags before resubmitting.
Then resubmit
- Fix the cause.
- In History, click Resubmit on the row, or use bulk resubmit for all Refunded URLs at once.
- Each resend costs 1 credit, and the 24-hour credit-back applies again.
We only count visits verified by reverse and forward DNS. If your server logs show a "Googlebot" from an IP that isn't Google's, it was a fake bot, and it doesn't count.
Still not working?
If a page passes every check and keeps getting refunded, contact support with a few example URLs and we'll take a look.
